A Night of Praise

As I write this article, I’m warmed again by the memory of our first San Juan Baptist Association’s Night of Praise. The response by our church and the churches we hosted was overwhelming. My initial expectations were too small. I thought we might have a few pastors and around 50 folks show up. As the time drew near, around a dozen and a half pastors and over 250 people made their way through the doors, ready to worship exuberantly. Our Praise Band and Choir did an excellent job of leading us all into the presence of the Lord. Scripture reading, prayer, and praise and worship flowed from our hearts and the sweet Holy Spirit of God filled the room and touched our lives. What an encouragement to us during this dry season! Our next time together will be this fall. My prayer now is for the Lord to get greater glory as His children gather from all parts of the Four Corners for a night of praise.
Thank you for the honor of serving the Lord with you here at FBC!

          Soli Deo Gloria!
Thoughts by Corley

Act 2:42 NIV - They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Just last night Sunday April 21st I spoke on “Doing Life Together”. Jesus prayed for us that we would be unified as he was with the Father John 17:20-22. So often we pour ourselves into being united with many great things that we often overlook the person sitting across the room in our own body. God has called each of us to FBC Farmington to be an active member of a local body that represents Him. However, it is that local body He has called us to be a part of that often gets our last bit of energy.
Look at the first church as they came to Christ they were devoted to two things, teaching and fellowshipping. As they did this many numbers were added to their body. Often people will walk into a local church sit through months of services and never once feel connected or valued by the body. This must change. This is not as easy as it sounds. For us to become what we should it takes a change in how we do things. Who in our local body have we not connected with? Are there people we avoid? Is there a family or individual you need to invite to your home. How committed are we to our local body? There should be a business in our local body that is confusing to the outside world.
So here is the challenge, go find those you are avoiding and get to know them. Do not wait on them. Go invite that family over for dinner and games. Become more committed to your local body. Quit being a spectator relying on others to do your job. When we as a body begin to do this the outside world will notice. People will come and feel valued and connected as Christ intended them to be.
The youth at FBC meet in the Refuge, located above the Fellowship Hall. This area has been equipped with a pool, ping pong and fosse ball table along with couches and TVs for hanging out. But, most importantly this area has been dedicated and blessed by God for the teaching of His Word and furthering relationships with Him and one another. We meet in the Refuge on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights for youth driven and led meetings.

Sunday mornings following the 9 a.m. main service the youth meet in the Refuge for a time of fellowship and studying of God’s Word. We are currently using Student Life – Character curriculum. This looks at God’s overarching plan and His purposes in the world, and our individual responsibility in that plan.

Sunday Night has been reserved for students to join the corporate body in fellowship and prayer called FOCUS Worship and Prayer. We have student led worship and Pastor Keith speaks for about 15-20 minutes. The last 20 minutes of the service is committed to prayer and testimony of what God is doing. This is a great time to see what God does in the midst of those that call upon Him. When we humble ourselves and pray, God has promised to hear from heaven. He does hear and often moves because of our prayers.

Wednesday Night we again meet in the Refuge for student led worship and a systematic study through the Bible. We are currently walking through Genesis and are excited to see how God reveals himself to each of us individually and as a youth body. There is no substitute for the Word of God and taking time to go through each verse asking Him to speak to us. What an amazing time. There is always a time of fellowship prior to and after Bible Study.

This summer the teens will be participating in Centrifuge Camp in June and a mission trip to follow later in the year. Our plans have not been solidified but we are praying about Jamaica, Dominican Republic, or other nations, as well as local missions.
We enjoy ski trips, swimming , paintball, VBS, and many other activities on a regular basis. We are very excited about FBC Youth SERVE. This allows students the opportunity and privilege to serve the church and local community in many ways. One week we may be pulling weeds and the next out visiting or spending time with those in need of companionship.

The students at FBC want to make an impact on this community and the world. Come be a part of the impact we are making and see how God works in your life. Gain a desire to know Him through studying His Word and see what begins to happen in your life. We look forward to seeing you soon!!
